The five-day SOFTEXPO-2010 will be kicked off on Feb 10 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city.
Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), the lone organization to promote the country’s booming software industry, is organizing the biggest software exposition with the theme of “Digital Bangladesh in Action”.
Disclosing it at a meet the press at a city hotel, BASIS President Habibullah N Karim said the ICT event is expected to have a large software display and IT-enabled services (ITES) breaking all previous records. Chairman of National Events Committee (NEC) A Towhid, Director (in-charge of NEC) MA Mubin Khan, Secretary General of BASIS Nahid Ahmed and Events Committee Co-Chair Faisal A Alim took part in the press conference. Speaking on the occasion, MA Mubin said they have given special emphasis on ‘Vision-2021’ aimed at supplementing the government’s efforts of turning Bangladesh into a digital country within the stipulated time.
Over 200 local and international companies with around five lakh visitors are expected to participate in the SOFTEXPO, he said adding that the event will create a wide scope for interaction among software providers, buyers, IT users, professionals, media, policy makers, development partners, students and the society people. Bangladesh has now more than 20,000 IT professionals engaged with over 500 software and ITES.
Responding to queries, Habibullah N Karim said the country has earned 32.91 million US dollar by exporting software accessories in the last fiscal year, a 5.91 million more than the previous year. The volume would be increased by 30 to 40 percent next year, hoped the BASIS president.
BASIS SOFTEXPO is envisaged to create a platform for showcasing immense potential of the industry by synchronizing all sorts of software resources and skills available in Bangladesh contributing to the country’s GDP, organizers said
